I have been recognizing our American veterans for years by dedicating a day of outdoor contemplation on or around Veteran's Day. I am fortunate enough to have that day off from work. In 2020 I went a couple days early on a solo excursion to the cabin. It was one of the most peaceful days I've had in a long while and miraculously, I had the place to myself. Solitude and contemplation are wonderful things. Watch the show!

On another solo trip, I decided to visit in mid-June hoping to see a lot of wildflowers. However, there was still some snow around up high and not a lot of green. This will give you a good idea what the trail is like coming from the Corral Creek (traditional) route. I also hiked up the "red mound" just to the south of the cabin and took a few shots. This is just a link to a Google Photos Album, but you can run it as a slideshow if you like.

I had wanted a full moon shot or at least the moonrise or sunrise from the cabin for years, and in 2016 it finally happened. I had been scouting a new winter route near Button Creek (see "getting there"). Some friends and I tackled it and it was an amazing trip.

Over the years I've accumulated a number of panoramic shots of the cabin and vista from the Corral Creek saddle. These are from all seasons.
my early trips
The first trips I took to the cabin in the winter happened in the late seventies and early eighties. I think we were the first people to visit in the "new decade" (January 4-6, 1980). That trip turned into quite the adventure, at least for us winter hiking novices. You can read an account of that story here.
Almost exactly a year later, a small group of us beat a high pressure system and inversion (fog in the valleys) and enjoyed springlike weather at the cabin after a night out on the trail. Fair weather goofiness ensued...
There's also a few random shots from the same period, including the helicopter that brought in a new stove.
